Lunar eclipse 1/31/18

Post by MinWage » Thu Feb 01, 2018 4:14 am

Hi all,

Got a quick shot of the morning lunar eclipse with the HH and William Optics ZS61. Wasn't expecting clear weather (usually have morning coastal fog) so didn't have a camera rig ready to go when I got up around 5AM. Scrambled around putting the scope and camera on the HH and ran out to the front yard. Got it all assembled in the dark (10 minutes after waking up) and nothing fell off - good test for a grab-n-go mount!

I forgot to use the ZS61 field flattener so the star images at the edges were pretty ugly - I cropped it down about 50%. Otherwise it's untouched.

What a nice shot! Thanks for sharing!

I was all set to try photograph the eclipse -- but for the fifth time in a row, Austin was not able to view a total lunar eclipse because of cloud cover. Quite frustrating!
